Why Choose Science As A Career?

Science is cool; there’s no doubt about that. Even all the nerds and geeks who love science in school are actually now the coolest people around, take Elon Musk for example. Science is everywhere and in everything, so as a career there are tonnes of choice and loads of exciting things you can do not to mention the money you could make as a scientist. So, why else should you choose science as a career?

Scientific Progress is Crucial to Our Future

The world continually changes and develops, and it will never stop doing that. Look at the differences in the last ten years alone. Technology has transformed the way we live our lives, and climate change has become one of the most prolific conversation topics of our time, both are all about science and scientists have a huge role and responsibility in what happens next or how we tackle issues such as climate change.

There Are A Lot Of Job opportunities

As mentioned, science is everywhere and in everything, so there is a vast choice when it comes to jobs. You could be a research scientist in your specialised field, or if you have a chemistry degree, you could go into chemical formulation, healthcare, pharmaceuticals or manufacturing or become a medical scientist, chemist, pharmacologist or a forensic scientist.

If biology is more your thing then a career in agriculture, marine biology, you could be a zoologist or something in genetics, environmental conservation or horticulture. Then, of course, there’s physics, which could lead you into space…among other things.

Travel the World

As mentioned, science is everywhere and in everything meaning that science is all over the world and the opportunities to work across the globe are endless and working somewhere else could mean some real new discoveries for you. You could learn from other scientists and universities all over the world.

New Discoveries

Talking of new discoveries, imagine if it were you that made one? Imagine if it was you that discovered the skeleton of a completely unknown dinosaur, or it was you that spotted a new comet. Discoveries and even surprises are happening all the time, and you could be right; there at the forefront of them.

Understand How Things Work

While you must already have something about you to consider a career in science, continuing to work in science after studying keeps your mind busy and helps you to continue to be logical and to think clearly and to become a better problem-solver. Science teaches you about life and about how things work, from learning about your car, your mobile phone to knowing all about the universe.

So whether you’re in a career already and need a change or you’re choosing what to do with your life now, then science is where it’s at. You don’t even need to be a scientist to be involved in new discoveries and life-changing innovations, you could work for a big scientific company and make a difference that way.
