What Features Make A Successful App

Apple iPhone

Many businesses start to look for new and exciting ways to engage with their customers after they get the basics down. One of those ways is by creating an app. But not all apps are great, and some don’t do much more than be another thing that you need to take care of as a business owner.

If you are sure that your business would benefit from an app, here are the features that you absolutely need, and custom mobile app developers will want to implement anyway!

Intuitive

The technology we use now is built, in most cases, to ‘work like we think it should’. We are used to certain swipes, clicks and scrolls that make something work. And, filling in forms should move smoothly to the next space and so on.

The app and how it works should feel to the user that they have always had it. When you have intuitive usage, people are more likely to use the app regularly – because it feels good to do so. You can look at other popular apps for guidance (think how quickly TikTok took off thanks to its swipe seen on many dating apps).

Payment

Somewhere in the region, 80% of purchases are now made via mobile phone – not to mention it is one of the leading devices used for entertainment, too. With mobile payment options that are as quick as a finger press or facial recognition, not having a payment portal is a mistake.

A payment gateway is something that no business app should be without – if there is no option to buy, it makes the app a point of information, and what reason do users have to use it?

Communication

A good business app always keeps the customer’s needs at the forefront of their products. And, in the case of an app, since it is on a mobile device – it should have a quick means of contact. A chat function or a call button usually suffice – but try to make them as easy to use as the rest of the app.

User-Friendly

Responsiveness is a must, and navigation should fall into the intuitive category. Those two things will go a long way to making the app as user-friendly as possible. Here are a couple of things that will make a difference in how user-friendly your app is:

  • What does your audience need?
  • Clean design (make use of white space)
  • Easy-to-read font size (adjustable)
  • Graphics optimised for mobile
  • Simple navigation
  • A search option

Security

Users give away a lot of their details every time they download an app, and it should be something you have as essential to go with a security-by-design and include all of the latest security features. Multi-factor, face recognition, fingerprint – you name it.

An app can be an incredible addition to your business, as it puts you right in the hands of the customer. But, you need to make it worth their time – and have an app worth downloading and using.
