Mail Marketing: How To Get It Right

postbox letters mail

You might be surprised to learn that mail marketing is still a thing in 2019/2020, and it can still work if you do it correctly. While digital marketing is effective, that doesn’t always mean you should avoid mail marketing altogether.

In fact, a huge 92% of shoppers say that they prefer direct mail for making purchasing decisions. That’s a massive number, and just goes to show that this is something you should be including in your strategy.

Things You Can Include In Your Mailer

A Postcard

A postcard with various designs to target customer categories could work really well. All you need to do is find direct mail services that can help you out. You can include an image that will resonate with the customer, information about your business, as well as any offers you have for new customers.

A Handwritten Note

A handwritten note is always a lovely personal touch that makes any customer feel warm and fuzzy inside. This can make someone who receives your mail marketing communications remember you for all the right reasons.

A Business Card

Business cards are a convenient size, allowing the person who receives it to place it in their purse or wallet for safe keeping.

Tips To Get Mail Marketing Right

Personalise It

When you’re trying to reach audience members, the more you can personalise your efforts, the better. The last thing you want is to make it look like your business is sending copy and paste messages out to everybody. Make sure you’re genuine and unique, personalising messages as well as you can.

Include A Tangible Offer

Make sure your mail marketing lets people know what you’re offering them. This may be a big discount, or some kind of service or consultation for free. Let them know the real reason you’re getting in touch. If you make your proposition clear, your mail marketing technique will be effective. Make sure you’re not too vague and that people are going to understand why they need your product or service.

Always Include A Strong Call To Action

Make sure you let people know what you want them to do once you have contacted them via mail. How do you want them to respond? Perhaps you want them to visit your website, or like your social media pages. Make sure you give them a clear direction so that there’s no confusion.

Informing them of what you’re offering and what you want them to do is far more effective than any other method you could try. You want them to take action, so tell them what that action is. Don’t be shy!

Mail marketing might be old, but that doesn’t mean it’s useless or won’t work for you. The only reason it wouldn’t work is if you ignore the advice above. A huge number of people still respond to mail marketing, and if you get it right, you could get amazing results from it. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Let us know your thoughts below!
