If you are getting bored of the day to day grind of working from home, a little fun will make all the difference. Keep reading to find out more.
Create an inspiring environment
What exactly an inspiring work from the home environment will be for you will differ from what it means to others. However, having creative control over your work environment is one of the best things about working from home. After all, there is no one to tell you that your bright stationery isn’t professional enough!
Of course, if you spend a lot of time on Zoom with clients or colleagues you may wish to give anything too outrageous a miss. Instead, why not consider upping your comfort factor with a new chair, a standing desk, or even an HVAC system for when the summer months come around?
Embrace community
Love ‘em or hate ‘em it’s often our colleagues in the workplace that keep us going. Unfortunately, there is much less opportunity for banter, and camaraderie when you work from home on your own. That is unless you continue to make sure you embrace community from your at-home desk.
Of course, the way you do this is entirely up to you. You may join a zoom meditation and workout group where you get to say hi to the same people each day. You could also become a member of an online community based on your interests where you can post in forums and send direct messages.
You can even pop next door and have a cuppa with your neighbour. Just be sure that working from home isn’t an isolating experience.
Make use of your commute time
Another smart way to make working from home more fun is to use the time you gain by not having to commute to do something for you. It can be something as simple as taking some time to relax and catch up on your favourite box set, or you can use it to practice a hobby like drawing or painting or even learn a new language.
Indeed, even if you had a very short commute of only 15mins, that adds up to 30 mins per day, which also adds up to 2 and half hours per week. More than enough time to spend on something meaningful to you. Just be sure to make a note of when you will use this time and stick to it.
Get outside
It may feel more productive to sit behind your home desk all day, but denying yourself natural light, fresh air and an opportunity to interact face to face with real-life human beings is a terrible idea in the long run.
Indeed, there are plenty of studies that show getting up, outside and away from your desk will make you happier, and more productive. Not to mention add in some important variety into your work from home days.
The good news is there are plenty of tactics you can try that will help you get outside more often. The first is to regularly take a walk each day. You can even sign up for a walking challenge where you get a medal, or use games like Pokemon Go to keep you motivated.
Another option is to walk or run, during the day. Many people use this time to make sure their dogs stay well exercised as well.
Going to the gym is also an option to consider. You could meet a friend for a workout or a class, and get some all-important face to face time too.
Heading out into the garden for a cuppa and to take in the fresh air for 15 mins or so can work wonders for your mind and body. You might even want to make this option even more appealing by investing in a hot tub spa or sun lounger to enjoy. After all, it would be hard to turn down the opportunity to get outside if some serious relaxation was involved.
Enjoy more culinary delights
Last, of all, you can make working from home more fun by taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a more varied selection of snacks and food. Indeed, eating at the office is fraught with difficulties from worrying about whether that tuna sandwich smell is offending your desk mates, to having to wait so long in line for the microwave that you only have two minutes to rocket down your food, once it’s finally cooked.
However, when you work from your home, you need not contend with any of these issues. Instead, you can feel free to eat the most pungent curry or fish dish with no one but yourself to worry about.
You can easily access hot food or reheat your lunch as well, which means you won’t have to make do with a soggy sandwich day after day. Instead, you can enjoy pasta, stews, beans, and leftovers to your heart’s content.
You can even bung all the ingredients for dinner in a slow cooker, and continue working while a healthy, delicious and nutritious meal bubbles away for later. Which, if you ask me, is far more fun than rushing in from work, only to collapse on the sofa and order pizza again for the third night in a row! Yay, working from home!
