Top Interview Tips

CV job interview

Having a job interview is never easy, no matter how many you might have done in your life. The stress of having to convey your best self in the space of an hour, coupled with the pressure of it being a job you really want, is never fun.

Even if you are the smartest, more savvy job seeker in the world, you will still need to prepare for your interview.

Interviews are about so much more than just the answers to the questions you give – you will need to have good posture and body language, dress well and be able to convince the hiring manager that you are the ideal candidate for the job at hand. Here we have put together some top interview tips that should make the process a little easier.

Dress to impress

The way you dress can have a big impact on the job as it is the first thing your future employer will notice about you. First impressions are very important so you want to convey the message that you are serious about the position. If you are going for a job in a very corporate company, a suit is a smart option.

If you are going for a job at more of an indie company, for example a web design agency that is a bit quirky, you can probably dress a bit more casual, but it is important to do your research ahead of time. The recruiter will want to see that you fit in with their company culture.

Ask questions

During an interview, be sure to ask questions. This shows that you are interested in the role and have thought hard about the position you are applying for. It shows that you are intrigued in both the role and the company and you want to find out as much about it as you can. A lot of candidates answer “no” when asked if they have any questions, but you should try and have at least two or three prepared.

Back up your points with evidence

If your potential future employer is asking about something and you give reasoning, be sure to back it up. For example, if you are saying you are a team player, give an example of when in the past you have been a team player. This will help show that you mean what you say.

If you don’t get a job, ask for the reason why so you can improve on it

While not getting a job is disheartening, don’t let it get you down too much. Instead ask them why you didn’t get it and find out how you can improve in the future. This will help you to get another job and hopefully get better at the process.

These are just a few simple tips that should help you the next time you are going for a job interview. Remember to get a good night’s sleep the night before and just try your best when you go in – you can’t do more than that. The job market is a competitive one
